Living in Edmonton...

Hi All,
Well I am living in Edmonton. I had the second interview lined up in Banff, but have decided that I would rather live in Edmonton. I am moving in with my younger sister Debbie and her boyfriend. We are getting an apartment in the downtown area, so it will be nearer to any job I get downtown, or close to a bus line. Life is good. Mom is still in Germany and gets back on Sunday. I am SOOO EXCITED!! Why... you ask? Because she and her siblings are staying in Haarlem, Holland, and she is going to visit, and take photos of the HIDING PLACE author and anti nazi heroine, Corrie Ten Boom's home. So that is exciting. They also went to the infamously cruel concentration camp BUCHENWALD in Germany. I was hoping they would go to RAVENSBRUCK in Northern Germany, near Berlin. Mom has already been to BERGEN BELSON, and DACHAU on previous visits to Germany. Anyways, not much new. Went to movies with several of my sisters at West Edmonton Mall so that was fun. Also, applying for jobs as well.

Take Care!

My Perogative...Plans have changed once more...

Hi All,
My plans have changed once again. I am in Edmonton. Got here last night with Mom. I am going to stay here for a few days. I had my job interview in Banff and that went well. I will know tomorrow If I have a second interview lined up. I was impressed with the place, the people, and the view. I would really LOVE that job. But I won't worry bout that.

After much deliberation, I decided not to accept the job at Falcon Crest for reasons. Plus, I would rather live in Banff as opposed to Canmore. I still want to work in the Hospitality field.

So I am in Edmonton. Saw Sachia and Cori. Was so good to see them. We hope to get together with Jeanne and Debbie and Mom. The last time all 6 of us were together was in Regina, Sk, in 1993. So it would be a nice reunion if it happens, Lord willing.

Had such a great visit with Mom in Canmore. We laughed and talked, talked, and talked. We watched part of a movie. But didn't end up watching all of it, since we wanted to talk. We finally were in bed by 1:45 pm and sleeping. Mom was extremely tired. Next day, we went to Banff and went for my interview. After that, we went up the Gondola and had a lunch up there. Beautiful but cold. Came down to come back to Canmore, as we were planning to stay in Canmore for another night, but instead checked out and decided to come to Edmonton. I haven't seen Sach, Jeanne or Debbie in ages...so it will be nice to see them. From previous blogs, I mentionned Cori coming to visit me.

You will be happy to know that on the way home, we listened to cds of Neil Diamond, Patsy Cline, Abba, and Sandi Patty. No CARPENTERS were played. I didn't even play them, so I was proud of myself. That took a lot of willpower NOT to play them. The first step. Ha Ha Ha.

Well take care everyone!!

Love,
Cam

Now I am done...I've only just BEGUN a new job...

Hi All,
Well today, on my last day, I trained 3 new people. They were French but very nice. I have trained in the last 9 weeks, about 20 some people...with half being French. It's not easy training French people when they have extreme difficulty speaking English. But thank the good Lord that I took French from Grade 4 to Grade 12. I can speak a bit to get by, and it has helped. These are the people I have trained with a F behind, if they are French...Alexandra, Fred, Caroline(F), Michel(F), Martin(F), Marie(F), Luke, Khenye, Brian, Matt, Krista, Megan, Melissa, Stefan, John, Derek, Audrey(F), Martina(F), Jessy(F), Josee(F), Steve(F), Jackie, Lana, Jeff(F), Jenn(F) and another girl whose name I can't remember... and those are all the people I can think of right now.

Anyways, I am done. I am happy. I have spent the afternoon and evening cleaning up my place. Vacuuming, dusting, cleaning out fridge, cleaning fridge, washing kitchen floor, cleaning entire Bathroom, cleaning out my bedroom and packing. So Mom will be here tomorrow night. So that should be fun. Also, I have a job interview on Monday for Housekeeping Supervisor with a Salary between $30-39,000 a year. So we shall see how that goes. That would be a nice job to have.

Almost Done...

Just four more days left. It was supposed to be 7 more days, but I glanced at new schedule and I am not on it anymore...so this Saturday will be my LAST day here. I am so relieved and excited about the new possibilities at another hotel. Where I can spread my expertise around the Falcon Crest Lodge. Plus, I am trying to save up on money so that I can get a vehicle by the new year. Nothing great but something that gets me from point a to point b. Oh yeah, I will be planning to get my license as well.

Today I got into a fight with another co worker. IT was vicious let me tell you. All over a silly vacuume. Thankfully, about 10 minutes later it was all resolved but still. And it was the first thing in the morning. It was a girl I DID NOT want to work with. And I didn't, but she was still on my floor. Luckily, all during the day, we were chatting and laughing etc. So everything was fine but it got me to thinking about my temper. I do have a temper. I don't usually use it very much, but sometimes when I do, I can say or do something that I will regret. Something within me will flare up and I become so angry. Well I will just learn from it, as a life lesson and carry on with life.

This evening, I went out for supper with my friend Alex. She had her birthday about a week ago, but never went to her dinner party. I had a job interview that night. So I took her to the Drake Inn for a meal of fish and chips. This is the third time I have had that in about 3 weeks...but I love it. Plus today was kinda rainy and cold...so having fish and chips is a nice treat as well as needed. We had a good visit.

Well that's about it for now. To spout pure nonsense please go to Denise's website...www.denisemonica.blogspot.com Please DON'T do it on mine(you know who you are...I will NOT mention any names)...THANK YOU!!(said as Mary Poppins would say...with a spoonful of sugar thrown in...)

A little bit of a change...but a good one...

Hello All,
Well I am leaving the Marriott Hotel. I am leaving for several reasons, but feel happy that I have chosen another hotel that is just beautiful, and it's in town.
The new job is a combination of Supervisor(2 days a week)/Housekeeper/Houseman. My wage is higher than my present job so that is good. The room allottment is not as crazy as here, and I would be working on my own...at about 9-12 rooms a day. I got a tour of about 8 rooms, and they are absolutely gorgeous with fluffy duvets, marble tiled bathrooms and kitchens, wonderful new furniture. I was very IMPRESSED.
Today, my General Manager was not terribly pleased that I gave my 2 week notice. He tried to hear my complaints that I had, but never really listened(in my opinion), and he ended up being right. So at the end of the meeting, he gave me back my letter of resignation, and said we would set up a meeting for tomorrow. I gave him back the letter and said, Sorry. My last day is the 16th of August. I have made other plans. He was not pleased. I think he was mad. But my problems were that, I had been told I would be a supervisor before I even left Saskatchewan. I came here and found it it was not to be so...and here I am 9 weeks later...slaving away in rooms...while I trained a girl to clean rooms(she started 4 weeks after me), and then she BECAME the supervisor!! I was choked when I heard that. Another complaint I had was that I became a Housekeeper Trainer...and apparently, only trained them in one or two rooms, and that was it...and they were left kinda on their own. And with that kind of training, they would not be that good at rooms...and I voiced my concerns about that, and my General Manager and Executive Manager both said, that that was the way it was to be...it is Summer and too busy to train them properly...I was shocked when I heard that. And so when we get complaints about rooms not being cleaned properly...which we do...it all stems from them not being trained properly. I don't NEED to work in a hotel like this. And I thought this would be a BETTER hotel. I don't EVER plan to stay at a MARRIOTT HOTEL ever again.

Anyways that is how my week has been. Just another 10 days of work left here...At least in my next employment...I will be a SUPERVISOR. She actually wanted to be a full time supervisor...but I said, I would try it for two weeks to see if it suited me. So we shall see.
